PRESSING NEEDS

Your assistance at anytime is highly valued and will be greatly appreciated. This page highlights our most pressing needs and is updated as needs change. Although Friends in the Desert has limited storage you will see from the list below, in addition to a place for the disadvantaged to have a hot meal, Friends also distributes some consumable goods when they are available through donations:

• Volunteers to serve and/or prepare food on the second Monday of each month



• Personal hygiene and grooming items that can be given to our homeless friends, such as toothbrushes, tooth paste, antiperspirant/deodorant, mouthwash, disposable razors, foot spray or foot powder, lotion, shampoo,



• Men’s socks, women’s socks, men’s underwear


• Paper goods (napkins, paper towels, paper plates, toilet paper)


• Coats, jackets and blankets are needed during colder seasons

Healthcare Initiative

A staff person from the Health Care for the Homeless Program of Nevada Health Centers is on-site at Friends in the Desert one day a week to provide health screening, assessment and preventive health services.

Basic hygiene is essential to alleviating the risk of infection and other health problems. Friends in the Desert seeks donations of and purchases preventive health care items such as soap, shampoo, feminine hygiene products, tooth paste, tooth brushes and other related items.
