PROGRAMS
Hot Meals: Friends serves hot meals at 5:00 PM Monday through Thursday and at 11:30 AM Saturday
and 12:30 PM Sunday of each week.
Meals are prepared by volunteers or donor organizations and served by volunteers
to individuals seated around tables bringing together as many as 10 visiting
friends per table.
Sack Lunches: Friends in The Desert also provides sack lunches for a meal each
Friday, when the kitchen is closed.
Annual membership and volunteer recognition: Typically held in February of each
year, Friends in the Desert volunteers, members and trustees are invited to
gather and consider the good works from the past year as well as the
organization’s future. The fellowship, facilitated by the generous contributions
of guest caterers, is second to none. Please mark your calendars to attend this
function. Visit the news page for announcements about this upcoming event.
Health Care Referrals and Screenings: Friends in the Desert currently provides
on-site health care screening and preventive health care services through an
ongoing partnership with the Nevada Health Centers through the Health Care for
the Homeless Program.
Hygiene Products and Socks and Clothing: Friends has always provided these items
to homeless men and women based on the number of items donated by private
organizations or individuals. Clean socks and underwear and hygiene items are
critical for the prevention of health problems.
